At times of crisis, you can respond as a confident, educated Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

In this comprehensive, basic EMT program, you’ll gain:

  • Critical-thinking skills
  • Crisis-intervention techniques
  • Emergency-scene management
  • Skills in medical diagnosis and management
  • Understanding of trauma-patient care
  • Ambulance operations

 

After this course, students can continue in paramedic education. Ohio EMTs and paramedics can earn competitive wages, with medians often in the $40,000 to $60,000 range annually (higher for paramedics), plus potential for overtime/shift differentials in ambulance services, hospitals or fire departments.

The curriculum is aligned with the State of Ohio Division of Emergency Management Services, and testing is managed by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

Our instruction team is comprised of experienced professionals who deliver laboratory and hands-on learning opportunities. You’ll have the opportunity to participate in ambulance ride-alongs to better understand the situations EMTs face.

Meet Matt Duplaga, Class of 2015

Matt Duplaga extended his education from Cuyahoga Valley Career Center and is now a leading first responder in the region.

Matt currently serves full-time with the Maumee Fire Division as a firefighter-paramedic, fire inspector, fire/EMS/live fire instructor and technical rescue technician. He also works part-time with the Girard Fire Department, Cortland City Fire Department and Milton Township Fire Department, serving in a variety of operational, instructional and inspection roles.

In addition to his fire service work, Matt is an active member of multiple specialized rescue teams, including the Portage Water Rescue Team, Trumbull County Water Rescue Team, and the Trumbull County Technical Rescue Team, where he is trained in rope, water/ swiftwater, confined space, hazardous materials/WMD, trench, structural collapse, machinery, vehicle, and heavy rescue disciplines. He credits his experience at CVCC as life-changing, giving him the skills, confidence, and connections that opened doors to a successful career in public safety.
