The School of Practical Nursing at CVCC was founded in 1963 as the Parma Hospital School of Practical Nursing. It relocated to CVCC in 2002, where it has upheld a tradition of quality and excellence in nursing education. This reputation has fostered positive, long-standing relationships with local healthcare institutions and the community. 

 

 

With consistently high first-time pass rates on the NCLEX-PN (the state board exam for licensed practical nurses), CVCC maintains full approval by the Ohio Board of Nursing and accreditation through the Council on Occupational Education.

Where do I start?
  • The first step is to complete the free, online application.  
  • Once the application is completed, a member of our admissions team will contact you with next steps.
What is required to be considered for admission?
  • A high school diploma (or equivalent), or a GED
  • Satisfactory references
Do I have to attend an orientation?
  • Yes, there will be a mandatory orientation on first day of class. 
How long is the program?
  • Our Nursing Program offers two flexible pathways to help students achieve their nursing career goals: a Full-Time Program and a Part-Time Evening Program.
  • The Full-Time Program lasts 10 months, starting in mid-August and completing in early June. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Once clinical rotations begin, they replace class days and occur 2-3 days per week at designated clinical sites. Clinical hours are from 6:45 AM to 2:45 PM.
  • The Part-Time Evening Program spans 18 months, beginning in early September and ending in June of the second year. Classes take place on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Clinical rotations occur every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday, from 6:45 AM to 2:45 PM at assigned clinical sites.
Are the class and clinical times flexible?
  • Enrollees are expected to be on time for each and every class and/or clinical and follow the schedule as outlined for the program.
How much is the program?
  • The current total cost of the program including books and fees is approximately $17,589, which makes the School of Practical Nursing at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center one of the most affordable LPN programs in Northeast Ohio.
Do you offer financial aid?
What credentials do I earn when I complete this course?
  • Successful graduates receive a diploma in Practical Nursing, achieve IV certification, and are eligible to sit for the Licensed Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN).  Upon successful achievement on the NCLEX-PN, you will officially be able to apply for your LPN license in Ohio or any state where you live.
Will any of my education at CVCC transfer to an RN program?
  • The School of Nursing at CVCC is part of a state-wide career credit transfer articulation agreement (CT)2 with diploma, Associates Degree, and Baccalaureate RN programs throughout Ohio.  This means some of your credits may be accepted by the RN program of your choosing. 
What is the current job market like for LPNs?
  • LPNs are currently needed throughout the continuum of health care, with continued demand projected far into the future. The current average national wage for an LPN is $28.72/hour, or around $59,730 annually (source: US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2024).
