The School of Practical Nursing at CVCC was founded in 1963 as the Parma Hospital School of Practical Nursing. It relocated to CVCC in 2002, where it has upheld a tradition of quality and excellence in nursing education. This reputation has fostered positive, long-standing relationships with local healthcare institutions and the community. 

 

 

With consistently high first-time pass rates on the NCLEX-PN (the state board exam for licensed practical nurses), CVCC maintains full approval by the Ohio Board of Nursing and accreditation through the Council on Occupational Education. 

When selecting a nursing program, key factors such as reputation, approval/accreditation, and NCLEX-PN pass rates are crucial. CVCC delivers on all fronts. 

Our experienced instructors provide 1:1 guidance to help prepare students to pass the state board exam and deliver compassionate care.

 

As a CVCC nursing student, you will compete 1,200 clock hours through coursework in our classrooms, hands-on training in our fully equipped nursing skills lab, and clinical experience at top hospitals and long-term care centers in the region. Our dedicated faculty and staff are here to support you every step of the way, ensuring you’re well-prepared for a successful nursing career.

Yes, there will be a mandatory orientation on first day of class. 
  • Our Nursing Program offers two flexible pathways to help students achieve their nursing career goals: a Full-Time Program and a Part-Time Evening Program.
  • The Full-Time Program lasts 10 months, starting in mid-August and completing in early June. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Once clinical rotations begin, they replace class days and occur 2-3 days per week at designated clinical sites. Clinical hours are from 6:45 AM to 2:45 PM.
  • The Part-Time Evening Program spans 18 months, beginning in early September and ending in June of the second year. Classes take place on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Clinical rotations occur every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday, from 6:45 AM to 2:45 PM at assigned clinical sites.

Enrollees are expected to be on time for each and every class and/or clinical and follow the schedule as outlined for the program.

The current total cost of the program including books and fees is approximately $17,589, which makes the School of Practical Nursing at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center one of the most affordable LPN programs in Northeast Ohio.

Federal Pell Grant and Federal Direct Loans are available to those who qualify. Students are responsible for submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is reviewed and processed by the U.S. Department of Education. Other financial resources may be available to qualified candidates, including Veteran Affairs benefits, Ohio Means Jobs, and private loans. Please see our Financial Aid page for more information.
Textbook List 2025-2026-2027

Successful graduates receive a diploma in Practical Nursing, achieve IV certification, and are eligible to sit for the Licensed Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN).  Upon successful achievement on the NCLEX-PN, you will officially be able to apply for your LPN license in Ohio or any state where you live.

The School of Nursing at CVCC is part of a state-wide career credit transfer articulation agreement (CT)2 with diploma, Associates Degree, and Baccalaureate RN programs throughout Ohio.  This means some of your credits may be accepted by the RN program of your choosing.

  • LPNs are currently needed throughout the continuum of health care, with continued demand projected far into the future. The current average national wage for an LPN is $28.72/hour, or around $59,730 annually (source: US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2024).

The School of Practical Nursing at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center offers affordable tuition, which includes access to ATI Testing’s Premier Package. This extensive resource helps students build essential critical and clinical knowledge throughout their studies and supports their preparation for the NCLEX-PN (State Board) exam after graduation.
